70s Mid-Century Modern Wedding In Portland, Oregon

Inspired by the iconic energy of Fleetwood Mac and the 70s interior design, this design sets the tone for a celebration that’s effortlessly stylish, a little nostalgic, and meant to be shared with your favorite people.

When it comes to weddings at House of Lilly Events, we believe in designing spaces that transport you and feel immersive. For this styled shoot, we took inspiration from the mystical vibes of Fleetwood Mac, the groovy atmosphere of the 1970s, and the sleek sophistication of mid-century interior design. Creating a dreamy, retro-luxe wedding aesthetic that was both transportive and grounded in intentional design.

Hosted at The Evergreen—one of Portland's most iconic and historic venues—we brought together a creative team to breathe life into this vision. Think lounge furniture, warm amber lighting, and intentional details that whispered nostalgia in the most elevated way.

The Vibe

an immersive wedding design featuring a nine-foot tall cake, an intimate wedding ceremony, and trees on the reception tables.

The ceremony featured orange linen drapes cascading from ceiling to floor, setting a soft, ethereal tone that contrasted beautifully with the venue’s industrial bones. Lighting installations added a golden glow and brought in that quintessential 70s “go with the flow” atmosphere. Instead of traditional chairs, we embraced lounge seating, encouraging a relaxed, and intimate vibe.

At each reception table, we placed sculptural trees made from hazelnut tree branches. These unexpected centerpieces added texture and depth while staying true to the organic, slightly whimsical vibe of the shoot.

The showstopper was the nine-foot cake. Yes, you read that right—a nine-foot tall cake stood in the center of the space like an art installation. This wasn’t just dessert; it was a statement. Rather than a traditional all-white cake, we leaned into the earthy, retro aesthetic with dark chocolate frosting. The design featured ten tiers of cake, two tiers of florals, and vintage-inspired pillars that echoed classic 70s grandeur.

This design was later showcased at The Venue Crawl, a wedding showcase where couples were shuttled around Portland, Oregon, to see decked out venues. Guests were mesmerized as they entered the space. From the 70s music being played, the chocolate aroma from the cake, the trees on the tables, and boozy slushies being served, this immersive design left the guests wanting to stay longer.
